Steve was born and raised in the Metro-Detroit area where he later ran track for Central Michigan University. In 2005, he finished as a NCAA D1 ALL-AMERICAN in the High-Jump with a personal best of 7'5". Steve finished 3rd at the NCAA National Championships and 4th at the U.S.A. Indoor National Championships. He was also named the 2005 Mid-American Conference "MVP".
