Athletic Performance Center History

The Athletic Performance Center (APC) was established as a division of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in January 2005.   Beginning with a small physical therapy department and one sports physical therapist focused on meeting the needs of the athletic population, it rapidly expanded.  In October 2005, the APC expanded into a 20,000 square foot state of the art facility training facility, and 2 speed and performance specialists were added to the staff.  The APC quickly became known as the facility commited to meeting the unique and specific needs of athletes.

Over the past few years, the APC has continued to expand the services they offer and the staff expertise available.  In 2006, Licensed Athletic Trainers and a Licensed Sports Massage Therapist joined the APC.   A certified performance pilates instructor was added in 2007.  The latest addition to the staff is our sports chiropractor.
The center utilizes the expertise of our staff as well as the physicians of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic to provide the resources needed to advance every phase of the athlete's development.

Today, the APC staff consists of 3 Physical Therapists, 2 Athletic Trainers, 3 Sports Performance Specialists, a Chiropractor, a Massage Therapist, and a Pilates Instructor.  Our staff has enjoyed the opportunity to work with many middle school, high school, college and professional athletes, including the National Hockey Association's (NHL) Carolina Hurricanes, National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball's (MLB) Josh Hamilton, and the Professional Golf Association's (PGA) Garth Mulroy.
